The fine print, made readable

Terms of Service

These terms are the legal agreement between you and BooklyBot when you use our website, create books and place orders. We’ve kept them as readable as we can and added plain-English summaries where it helps — but the full text is what applies.

1The agreement

In plain words

By using BooklyBot you agree to these terms and our Privacy and Cookie Policies. You must be an adult to use the service.

A friendly summary, not the binding bit — the section below is what actually counts.

These Terms of Service govern your use of the BooklyBot website and services. By creating an account, generating a book or placing an order, you agree to be bound by these terms, our Privacy Policy and our Cookie Policy. If you do not agree to them, you must not use the service.

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to place an order with us.

BooklyBot (“we”, “us”) operates the service from the United Kingdom. Our contact details are at the end of these terms.

2Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity that happens under your account. Provide accurate information when you register and keep it — especially delivery details — up to date.

Tell us promptly, using the contact details below, if you believe your account has been accessed without authorisation. We may suspend an account to protect it, or where we reasonably suspect fraud or a breach of these terms.

3Making a book

In plain words

You provide a photo and a few choices; the AI writes and illustrates the book; you review, edit and approve everything before it’s printed.

A friendly summary, not the binding bit — the section below is what actually counts.

BooklyBot books are written and illustrated by artificial intelligence from the photo and details you provide. AI output is inherently variable: every book is unique, no particular result is guaranteed, and the same inputs can produce different output. Illustrated characters are an artistic, deliberately stylised interpretation — not an exact likeness.

You review the complete book before anything is printed, and you can use the editing tools to revise any text, any illustration or the cover until you are happy. Approving a book for print is your confirmation that it is as you want it: once production begins the book cannot be changed, and content you approved is not a defect.

To protect the children our books feature, every character is deliberately constrained: first names only, no photo-realistic depictions, and mandatory stylisation. These safeguards apply to every book and cannot be removed.

4The content you provide

You keep all rights you hold in the material you provide — names, story details and any photo. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to process that material solely to generate, display, print, deliver and store your books and otherwise provide the service. Uploaded photos are never stored on our systems — see our Privacy Policy for how they are handled.

You warrant that you have the right to provide everything you submit — including the parental responsibility or consent needed to feature the child depicted — and that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights. Never upload a photo of a person whose consent you do not have.

You must not submit content that is unlawful, defamatory, hateful or obscene, or that sexualises, endangers or harms any child. We may refuse to process, or may remove, content that we reasonably believe breaches these rules or the law, and we may suspend the account responsible.

5Who owns what

In plain words

Your finished book is yours to keep and enjoy. The BooklyBot platform, brand and technology stay ours.

A friendly summary, not the binding bit — the section below is what actually counts.

Once you have paid in full, your finished book is yours: you may read it, gift it, download the digital edition and order reprints for personal, non-commercial use. Reselling books or using the service commercially requires our prior written consent.

The BooklyBot platform — the website, software, story and illustration systems, templates, and the BooklyBot name and branding — is and remains our exclusive property. Nothing in these terms transfers any of our intellectual property to you. Because books are AI-generated, similar styles or story elements may appear across different customers’ books; the specific text and illustrations of your book are generated uniquely for you.

6Digital delivery and dispatch

Digital editions are made available in your library to read and download as soon as they are ready. Printed books are produced on demand and dispatched worldwide, with delivery included in the price; most orders arrive within around 3–5 business days of approval. All production and delivery times are estimates, not guarantees, and can be affected by carriers, customs and demand.

You are responsible for the accuracy of the recipient name and delivery address you provide. If a parcel is lost or returned because the address was wrong or incomplete, we may ask you to pay for reprinting or redispatching. International orders may attract import duties or taxes in the destination country, which are the recipient’s responsibility. Risk in a printed book passes to you on delivery.

7Prices and payment

In plain words

You see the full price before you pay. Payment is taken securely by Stripe at the time of order.

A friendly summary, not the binding bit — the section below is what actually counts.

Prices are shown at checkout in your selected currency and include applicable taxes where we are required to collect them. Payment is taken when you place your order and is processed by Stripe — we never see or store your card details. We may change our prices at any time, but changes never affect orders already placed.

Promotional codes and vouchers are subject to their stated conditions, are non-transferable and have no cash value. If a price is displayed incorrectly because of an obvious technical or clerical error, we may cancel the affected order before dispatch and refund you in full.

8Cancellations, refunds and reprints

In plain words

Every book is made to order just for you, so change-of-mind returns don’t apply once production starts — but if anything is wrong with your book, we’ll reprint or refund it.

A friendly summary, not the binding bit — the section below is what actually counts.

Every BooklyBot book is personalised and made to your specification. Under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and equivalent laws elsewhere, personalised goods are exempt from the standard 14-day change-of-mind cancellation right, so a printed order cannot be cancelled once production has begun.

For digital editions, by completing your purchase you expressly request immediate supply of the digital content and acknowledge that your statutory right to cancel ends once it is made available to you.

If your printed book arrives damaged or defective, differs materially from the version you approved, or does not arrive at all, contact us within 30 days of delivery (or expected delivery) with your order number and, where relevant, photos of the problem. We will reprint the book or refund you — your choice. Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

9Acceptable use

When using BooklyBot, you must not:

  • Use the service for any unlawful, fraudulent or deceptive purpose.
  • Submit content that is hateful, or that sexualises, endangers or harms a child — or upload a photo of any person without the right and consent to do so.
  • Interfere with, disrupt, overload or attempt to compromise the security or integrity of the service.
  • Copy, scrape, data-mine or reverse-engineer the platform, access it by automated means, or use it to build a competing product.
  • Circumvent usage limits, pricing, or the content-safety controls built into the service.
  • Resell, sublicense or commercially exploit the service or the books it produces without our prior written consent.

10Service availability

We work to keep BooklyBot available at all times, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. We may modify, suspend or withdraw features — or the service — for maintenance, security or business reasons, giving notice where reasonably practicable. If we permanently withdraw the service, we will refund any paid order we have not fulfilled.

11Liability

In plain words

If we get something wrong we’ll put it right or refund you. We’re not liable for losses unrelated to your order, and nothing here takes away your legal rights as a consumer.

A friendly summary, not the binding bit — the section below is what actually counts.

We provide the service with reasonable care and skill. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, loss of profit, or losses that were not reasonably foreseeable to both of us when your order was placed.

Except where liability cannot lawfully be limited, our total liability to you in connection with any order is limited to the amount you paid for that order.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be excluded by law — and nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

12Ending your account

You can close your account at any time from your account settings or by contacting us. When you do, we delete your personal data as described in our Privacy Policy; records of completed orders are kept where tax and accounting law requires.

We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms — immediately and without notice for serious breaches, such as submitting prohibited content, and otherwise with reasonable notice. Sections that by their nature should survive closure (including those covering intellectual property, liability and governing law) continue to apply.

13Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time, for example to reflect new features or changes in the law. The current version is always published on this page with its “last updated” date, and we will give notice of material changes where practicable. Changes are not retroactive: orders already placed are governed by the terms in force when you placed them.

14Governing law

These terms, and any dispute arising from them, are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections of the country you live in and the right to bring proceedings in your local courts.

If any part of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in full effect. If we do not enforce a right under these terms straight away, we are not waiving it.
